Best Computer Speakers Under $300?

I'm building my first PC and am looking into grabbing some decent computer speakers. My budget is roughly $300. I have looked at Bose Companion 20's and Corsair SP500's. I don't know much about audio though so I thought it'd be a good idea to ask here. I will mostly be watching videos on youtube and listening to music with them. I don't need anything with a lot of bass. The music I will be listening to will mostly be rock songs such as Hotel California. Also, I do not need to use them for when I game on my computer. Since you don't need a lot of bass... I'd recommend some Monitor speakers? with a 300 price range you could pick up the audioengine 2s with an entry level reciever?
It really depends on whether you are planning to upgrade the system you are about to purchase or replace your system with a whole new system.
You'll probably be in the mid/high end 2.1 ready made systems with 300 dollars.

But you can help us narrow your range down with whether you're interested in monitor speakers or 'ready made' speaker systems like bose companion 5s!

By the time u hit $300, u dun need to compromise to PC Speakers : get a 8" Yamaha active sub, a T-Amp and some bookshelf speakers and u set ^^

Stay away from Bose they are complete junk! Look for a decent brand like maybe Logitech or JBL.

I have to say... I have heard the corsairs and didn't like them... and much as it pains me to say ... actually (not that they are what i would buy) and they are probably overpriced for what you get) ... however the Bose Companion 20's did not sound bad at all. You could certainly do worse...besides have internet nerds make fun of your speakers 24/7..

anyways.... I wouldn't get the A2's with you budget... but you budget does have room for the A5's so...... i'd either bump the budget $100 or (actually what i would do) forget the Audioengine option entirely.

I basically have two options for you consideration..

one is a what I think is a very nice "turn key solution" (which if it had better availability would be SUPER... but currently Out of stock...so if this looks "awesome" to you, you may need to email them and try to find out when more might come.

Right as we speak I'm listening to the following system

PC > Fiio E07K > Yamaha C-60 preamp ($20 paid for this) > Elan Z660 power amp (Paid $7 for this one) > JBL L1 Bookshelf speakers ($40 paid)

so what $67 high fi system I have bough over the last few months ... which will sound (imho) MUCH better than most /all new gear at a $300 price point.


however that said if not wanting to go used or lacking room for receivers / amps and that is a valid concern ... or just not even feeling comfortable going the used route.

which comes out (not including tax / cables ..shipping) to about $20 over but it would be very nice I think.
