what kind of game, cpu heavy or gpu heavy?

The Guide for gaming laptops:

First Graphics
800M+ series from Nvidia should keep you going for sometime, I personally have the 850M and its perfect for what i do. (Minecraft at 250 fps)

Cpu:

Depending on the type of game you might wanna go with 2 -> 4 cores, most laptops have intel cpu, and look for one with hyperthreading.
And the clockspeed should be around 2,50 GHz and Boost 3,00~.

Ram
The clockspeed of the ram doesnt always matter, like in this case, I have 8 gb of ram and can upgrade to 16 gb if i wanna.
so choose one where you have plenty of ram, and upgrade if you need to.

Screen
Biggers is always better, and so is the resolution. 15,6 -> 17,3 Inches is pretty good, and go for 1080+ resolution. And find one with 60 Hz monitor instead of 30 Hz, (Hertz is a updating unit for screens and other devices. 1 Hertz, 1 update per second.

Harddrive:
If this is for gaming, i would recommend a large harddrive, with the possibility to upgrade to an SSD.

And the probably the largest problem for gaming laptops, is the noise...
some of them have bad ventilation and others sound like Jet engine, some laptops have dual fans setups which is very good for being quiet and cool.

Good Luck Mate! (M8)

I personally recommend MSI and Asus.

Have a nice day :D

I would suggest you get a console (Ps4) instead. you won't get anything worth gaming on (laptop-wise) within that budget.

Either way, you should look at custom laptop makers in your area such as clevo, etc.

As I remember, PS4 arent very mobile, unless he is just staying the same place all the time.

£400 is not a lot of money. You will only be able to get a new laptop with integrated graphics. There are several models of the Lenovo G505s, but I am guessing the one you had came with an A8-4500m APU with the Radeon HD 7640 graphics core.

The only laptop that I can find at Dabs.com (the only UK electronics site that I know of) with a better graphics core are the following two laptops that are basically the same price. It has a dual core i3-4000m (2.4GHz) with the Intel HD 4600 which is more powerful than the Radeon HD 7640 by a decent amount. There are laptops with the dual core i5-4200u (2.6GHz) or i5-4210u (2.7GHz) in that price range. They are a bit faster and also consume less power for longer battery life. However, they have the Intel HD 4400 graphics core which is a little slower than the Radeon HD 7640.

If you want something better with a dedicated graphics chip then you are going to have increase your budget. A laptop with a lowly nVidia GT 820m will run you about £500 while a laptop with a GT 840m will start at about £600. Bump that up to at least £700 for a laptop with a GTX 850m.
