i have a budget of $1700 i need a machine that i can play all the high end games at a high settings. i dont know were to get a laptop or a desktop . i will mostly use it for gaming. thanks alot

If you have a budget of $1500 i suggest looking at things such as the razer blade, alienware, or ibuypower as these are the best brands to choose from for gaming laptops. For $1500 all of these laptops should have at least an i7, and as far as graphics go I would compare the graphics cards in the laptops to see which is the best, or if there are any features that one of these brands has that you really like. But yeah choose from one of these 3 is what i would recommend to you.

Razer blade wont work, both the 14 incher and the 17 incher are $2099+, even the Razer Blade 14 (2013) is above the $17k mark.

I would avoid the fancy new laptops with high pixel density displays i.e. Lenovo Y50, Razerblade 14, MSI Dragon 3K as these laptops currently suffering from scaling issues and unable to play games at satisfying settings at native resolutions (Y50 being the worst), but playing at 1080p is even worse as it appears it only populates that many pixels leaving the rest of the display blank.

I suggest waiting awhile for the GTX 970M and 980M to be released as these will blow away all other mobile GPUs currently available, while running cool and fitting into small form factors (e.g. Razer 14). I suggest taking a look at the Aorus x3 and x7 refreshes with GTX 970Ms

I recommend MSI for gaming laptops they are very good :)

It's never good a idea to buy a gaming laptop, meaning one with with a dedicated GPU, as the hardware decays fast and once a part breaks, you have to place the whole thing. Also a lot more expensive and weaker than desktop parts, and higher chances of frying. A normal laptop with 3rd i5 should be fine, with your budget, you can even got for the latest i7.

Not true. My 4 year old Alienware M15x is still going strong and still supports the modern MXM GPU socket meaning when the GTX 970M and 980M are released, these will work in my laptop (probs with some driver and vBIOS tweaks).

Oh it has depleted, you just don't notice it. Well if you change parts esp the gpu...that's the exception I stated in my argument. also where do you buy a laptop gpu on it' own?

Gaming laptops are a good idea for a variety of reasons. For instance, many people travel frequently and want something they can set up easily in a different hotel every week. Other people already have nice desktop rigs and just want a second portable option.

Just because it isn't right for you, doesn't mean it isn't right for someone else.
