best hardware monitor application ?

Just wondering what people use to monitor their systems ?
Is there something that is head and shoulders above the others ?

I was looking for something to capture possible reasons for random system crashes if that's possible.

If your system is crashing, there is something wrong with it.

No I'm just looking to update my library of useful software is all. Its been a while since I bothered with monitoring hardware myself.
last time I checked it was as you say software that can monitor but nothing that will tell you on a restart what caused a crash.
I have researched with web searches and as I usually do I have asked the question here and on other forums.
