Hello:

I was in a CompTIA A+ course last year and used part of my stipend to buy a Lenovo ThinkPad. It has 32 GB of soldered-in RAM. I switched out the NVME 1 TB drive for a 4 TB drive. I’m not a gamer, so I can’t address that user case. The laptop came with Windows 11 Pro, which I’ve had many issues with. The laptop has an AMD Ryzen 5 chip. I’ve found the laptop bogs down with several apps open. The battery life is terrible—maybe 3 ½ hours unplugged. Maybe a ThinkPad further up the price range would suit you. I paid around $900 USD for the laptop, and that’s after days of negotiations with their sales reps. I also sent the laptop back for replacement, as there were a lot of bad blocks on the 1 TB SSD, which was surprising since it was a Samsung drive.

If I had to do it all again, I might still get a Lenovo, but would probably get a model with an Intel 9 chip and an OLED screen. After years working on Apple gear with Retina screens, the Lenovo’s screen always looks pixelated to me. Also, the built-in speaker sound tinny at best.

So there’s my recommendation of what you should NOT buy.

Anyone can guide which laptop is best for college.
thanks in advance for suggestion.
Depends what you want out of it. If it's for general usage a base MacBook Air is the best value you're going to get. Plus you don't need to buy Microsoft office due to it coming with a capable office suite preinstalled. If you want to game or use solid works stay away and get a windows machine.

I researched the best laptop for college- reliable, fast, and easy to carry around campus. After skimming through expert reviews from trusted and reputable sources like LaptopMag, Tom’s Guide, and PCMag, these two models keep popping up as great selections to make:
HP Pavilion 15.6
HP Pavilion has a very classic stylish look offering a 15.6-inch full HD display equipped with much power due to among others Intel Core i7 processor, 16 GB RAM, and also 512GB SSD. It allows you to multitask while handling large applications and general schoolwork. Battery performance is good, and it remains very silent under pressure too.
Dell Inspiron Touchscreen Laptop
It has a responsive touchscreen, Intel Core i5 processor, 16 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of SSD. Its flexible design enables it to be comfortable for both typing and on-screen work such as note-taking and light creative work. The building quality is durable, and Dell Thermal system keeps it cool throughout long sessions.
I want only these qualities in laptop: Fast performance for multitasking, research, and zoom classes; lightweight for carrying between lectures; long battery life; good displays for both studying and Netflix breaks; reliability and durability to last all 4 years
Basically, both laptops look like great options, yet I am torn between the processing power that the HP Pavilion one offers and the touchscreen flexibility that the Dell Inspiron has to offer. If you may have used either of these for school or work, I would love to hear your feedback.
Which one would you recommend for college life?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Budget under 1000$
Laptop of any model
Base MacBook Air. Use an education discount and it’s well within you budget. Destroys both of these options from a performance and battery life perspective. Also has a good display even if it’s not near the Pro and I’d wager a much better webcam for zoom.

Oh and you don’t have to buy Microsoft office. It’s comes with a free office suite.
