I strongly advice everyone to avoid Targus Defcon locks. They have a
tendency to lose their combinations. I have one stuck in my laptop whose
combination no longer works. I have tried all nearby combinations that
differ by only a digit or two to no avail. Save yourselves a ton of
aggravation and don't use them.

Perhaps you got a bad lock. I've had two of these for some years and
they've been relatively trouble free. I say relatively because one of
the cables got a slight kink in it a few years back.

piece of S%^& off with a hack saw. I hate Targus. The bastards wouldn't
even respond to my email.

What did Defcon have to say about this problem? If it happened to you
others probably have had this same problem.

You could have just tried every combo. There are only 3 digits, right? I
like targus cases, but thats about all.

Not only that but several different combos work on most locks.

They have not even bothered to respond to my support email submission. I
ended up having to remove the lock with a hack saw. I unfortunately
scratched up my laptop pretty bad in the process. I am attempting to fix it
using a vinyl repair kit. I bought a fellows key lock. I will never buy
a Targus product again. So far the fellows lock looks better and the spacer
fits on more securely.

There are 4 digits so there are 10, 000 possible combinations. I tried
every combo that differed by one or two digits. Finally I ended up having
to take the piece of S&*$ off with a hack saw. I scratched the laptop up
quite bit though. I attempting to repair using a vinyl repair kit.
I bought a new fellows key lock and it works great and the spacer
actually stays on instead of constantly falling off with the targus.
Targus still never bothered to respond to my email support submission.
They don't make obscenities dirty enough to describe what I think of Targus
as a company. I will certainly never do business with them again.

I'm surprised. Targus is usually a pretty reputable company. Email can
sometimes get lost in the shuffle. Did you try a second inquiry, or
perhaps a phone call?

For notebook cable locks, I generally prefer Kensington, but Targus has
a good reputation. I haven't tried their Defcon line, though. Is that
the one where if it gets too far from the remote you carry, it starts
screaming?
