I own an Acer Predator Helios 300 series laptop, I am trying to dual boot Elementary OS on pre allocated space on my hard drive...
I used Rufus to make a bootable USB with the downloaded linux ISO but when I try to boot in the BIOS the USB doesnt show up and it gives me this:

PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM.
error: unknown filesystem.
Entering rescue mode...
grub rescue>

I've never known Rufus to fail. Rather than depending on the BIOS to find the USB stick, just set it to be the default device from which to boot.

If that still fails , try a different USB port and if that doesn't work either, it must be a dud installation. Which flavour of Linux are you using?
