I recently replaced the keyboard of my laptop. To reach the keyboard screws, I had to peel off a black film from the back of the keyboard, which was shiny and gray on the other side. The new keyboard I got does not have this film. Is this film useful for anything? After the keyboard replacement, my laptop started to turn off without any reason and I suspect that the missing film might be the reason.

My guess would be it's a heat guard and would be crucial if the original manufacturer took the trouble to put it in there. Chances are you bought a third party non-OEM manufactured keyboard.

It gets quite hot inside a laptop case so your new board may not have a long life. Pesonally, I would seek out the OEM replacement and return the one you have now.
