black mark on screen

For a couple of weeks now I have had a black mark on the bottom of my screen that has a line extending from it as if it were a crack that continues to get longer. What might this b

What make/model of laptop is this? Can you take a picture and post?

Has the system been dropped or anything struck the display?

When you move your cursor over that area, does the cursor appear to move over or under the black spot?

Thank you for taking the time to respond.
The laptop make is ASUS. Can't take picture and don't think it has been dropped. The cursor goes under the black mark. Don't want to spend $ to bring this to get fixed if it is nothing more than an inconvenience but if it may be a signal that something is very wrong with the laptop I will.

Could just be a patch of dead pixels due to a flaw in the display. It can and does happen. The only way to fix is to replace the display.

If still under warranty, I would suggest contacting Asus for repair/replacement. If not under warranty, and you can live with it, just keep an eye on it to ensure it doesn't worsen.
