Black screen when laptop turned on

Can somebody please help me. So today when i turned on my laptop the screen just went black, even though the cursor was there. I tried turning it off, then back on it still wouldnt work. Can someone please help me, Thanks. It is a windows 7

if it is windows 8 try ctrl+shift+esc when you see the cursor
you will get taskmanager, go to file and run new task as explorer
if you see the power button try restarting the system with shift key pressed so that it will lead you to safemode

or else if you are getting a single blinking cursor on top left(like cmd or c program), better remove your harddisk and check
