Blank Channel Guide

I just hooked up my 5040 to a wireless Ethernet bridge....no problem, it
connects to the internet; however, despite several clearing of channel
guides, rebooting, changing the IN1 and IN2 to "nothing" ,checking for new
software and forced connections, still having blank channel guide. When I
force connection, it downloads zones, updates clock, updates phone numbers,
combines data, then just stops. Sometimes it says that it had a problem
downloading data from the server and will try again later. Anyone have any
more suggestions? I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks.

Short of stringing Cat-5 or Cat-6, No, no suggestions

I'm told that some wireless bridges cause problems

And you just nade a good one. It should be obvious, but a lot of
people fail to consider that considerable extra complexity of
wireless.

Well, I hooked the set back up to the phone line, and I still have the same
problem!!! I called the tech support at Digital (he did not seem to know
what he was doing), and all he could come up with was to restore the unit
back to factory defaults and lose all my shows! Would appreciate any other
ideas. Thanks.

I remember having a bunch of problems when it would fail in the middle
of an update. The system got VERY unstable - it rebooted more than a
few times. I had to dial down the modem speed to get it to work. Once
that worked, I've had no problems since, even after changing it over to
use the network.

My suspicion is that Bad Things happen if there are any transmission
errors during an update, and they stick around.

I'd try using wired ethernet (temporarily), and if that fails, a cold boot.

Many times if you have a crash or a failure during a download, files
will get corrupted. When this happens you could, for example, have the
channel guide become "read only", which insures failures on subsequent
connects.

Try 243 Zones
on the menu select "Clear channel guide"

Clear the channel guide and the system will reboot.
After restart, cancel any attempt to connect to get the guide.

Clear the channel guide again. (There is a backup copy)
Upon restart, let it connect if it attempts. If it does not attempt to
connect, force a connect on that same 243 Zones menu (net connect).

Should be ok.

Doooood, check the network config on the Replay. You DNS config on the Replay
or bridge is messed up. I'd guess that you need to change the DNS on the replay
to the IP of the bridge. Very similar thing happened to me and all it was was
the change in the DNS.

If that were the case, she would not have been able to set the clock or
update phone numbers.

The problem is not the network connection; it has to be inside the RTV's
data files.
