BlueRay to my Pioneer VSX-5700S receiver

Can I connect my BlueRay DVD player into my (old) Pioneer VSX-5700S receiver. It does not have a HDMI connection or a digital audio in jack

Your only option is analog stereo. If your TV has analog audio out (line level RCA or headphone mini plug) then use that connection for the BD player and any other sources on the TV. If not then it depends.
If the BD player doesn't have left and right audio outputs then you will need either an HDMI audio extraction box or a digital to analog converter depending on the outputs you BD player has.

I have a HDMI cable with standard jacks connections at the other end. I connected the cable to my audio in on my receiver and nothing happened
