Um this technology has been around for 30+ yrs now. Have you guys ever watched the documentary "Star Trek"? Its a series of live action following Star Ship and its crew. Kinda like "John and Kate Plus 8"...except "Plus 8 x 100". If you watch the documentary, you'll see the crew use this phaser thing.

[citation][nom]ch42832n[/nom]I hope Boeing will not outsource the production of this to low cost country like China...[/citation]

they probably already have their own, that's why TH can post articles about this.

Yea...I can't even begin to imagine what the army already has working, and what they have in development...

It really doesn't matter if Boeing moves it's headquarters to China although that would be a bad move. If you think China doesn't have a huge espionage campaign going against companies like this right as we speak you are crazy. There is a 99% chance that they have insiders in this company gathering everything they need. You wonder why their is barely any R&D and money going on in China, it's mainly cause they don't need to when countries like America will pay for it and then they can just take it for free. Not only that but you can be sure they are using cyber espionage to gain tech secrets also.

For anyone interested they can read the report just released by the US China economic and security people here. http://www.uscc.gov/annual_report/2009/09_annual_report.php

Well its a step forward, but what I want to know is how much power it takes to sustain it and how long it took to shoot down said UAV's. Also if this is the stuff they are letting the public know I wonder what they are working on that is still classified.

I hope they make a laser beam satellite and put it in orbit and demolish Iran with it. Then, aim it at California and get rid of 80% of the country's idiots in one shot.

If I remember correctly it weighs 20 tonnes, fires 6 shots between refuelling, takes 4+ hours to refuel and is ~225kW in power. It's a chemical laser so uses lots of nasty toxic chemicals. Lets just say that you wouldn't want one exploding in mid-air over a city....

Next step would be the Particle Uplink Cannon from C&C Generals to become a reality.

LOL - I'd agree with that! :D

Except Scotty was usually stuck arse-first in Engineering, making the warp engines give "all the power they've got, Capn - I canna give you any more!"
