Booting to a black screen, please help

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with W7. When I boot with the screen open the screen remains black with no pointer. When I boot with the screen closed everything is normal. How come?

I tried to update the driver but the process ends up in a failure. When the screen is black, an external screen shows the display normally.

Can you please help me? Thank you.

Hi,

It seems like a hardware problem but please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help.
- Start by running Windows Update first and install all the available updates.
- Next is to do a clean install of the graphics card driver.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the graphics card driver.
- Next is to open Programs and Features then uninstall anything related to the graphics card.
- Once done, download and install the latest driver from the manufacturer site of the GPU.
- Reboot the laptop once the latest driver has been installed.
- Do test it again and see if the same problem will persist after all these steps.

I cannot install the graphics card driver. When I try to install it the process ends with the term "failure".
