My old laptop (HP Pavilion 15 P029tx) broke a few days ago, and after a little research I bought a Lenovo 310-15ISK. It arrived today, and it's unbearably slow.

It took around 15-20 minutes for it to load up after set up, and 10 minutes to download chrome. Even with one tab open, and nothing else running in the background, it struggles, and it can't play videos at all. All I need and want from a laptop is that it can handle a word processor, spotify and the internet being used at the same time, and work at a reasonable speed. My old laptop (which going by its specification is worse than the Lenovo) handled this just fine, so I'm surprised this one is so useless.

Is there anything at all I can try to get it working normally before I send it back?

Hello there.

Usually, such a slow speed means your HDD is probably defective? Or it's overheating. All the specs of your Lenovo are supposed to be way better than that...

You can try to prove it using CrystalDiskInfo:
https://osdn.net/projects/crystaldiskinfo/downloads/65980/CrystalDiskInfo7_0_4-en.exe/ (CrystalDisk Info)

It will tell you if your HDD is ok or not. If it is, then look at temperatures with this:
http://www.almico.com/speedfan452.exe (Speedfan)

Such a powerful laptop should be capable of handling what you're asking easily. What you're asking for is actually what a 2010 laptop can do easily.

Thanks for your help! I couldn't get anywhere with it, so I took it into a repair shop and it turns out it had been water damaged somewhere in production/delivery, so they're sending me another, which will hopefully work fine
