Broken headphone jack on Dell m1330?

I just got an XPS m1330 today and I plugged in my headphones so I wouldn't disturb my family while I was setting things up. All was well until I took them out and now my PC thinks that the headphones are still plugged in and doesn't give me any sound out of the laptop speakers. The only way I can get any sound is if I plug the headphones back into the other headphone jack.

Just wondering if anyone knows how I can repair this, without having to send it back if at all possible as I just got it today and I need it for college.

It's not like I pulled it out with any particular force, so I can't see how I could have damaged it that easily.

I'm running Vista Ultimate btw.

well i dont really know how u can resolve this. Do you have complete warrenty cover for ur laptop? They would come to your place to repair it, you dont have to send it back. at least you could contact dell, they might have a solution that u can do yourself.
How about uninstalling the sound drivers and resinstalling. might work.
