Hello everyone. I want to start off by saying I know very little about computers. But I would like to start doing gaming videos. I was wondering if anyone knows of a laptop for about $300-$400 that can use an elgato hd60 game capture. All I know is the system requirements for the elgato is at least an i5 processor clocked at 2 ghz and at least 4gb of ram. Also, I have a console so the laptop does not have to be able to play games. However it would be nice if it could play Minecraft. So are there any laptops that meet those requirements that are under $400? Any thoughts are appreciated, thanks.

I will investigate into it. Would you say you use Sony Vegas for your video editing?

Tell me places where you'd be buying this laptop from? Online stores?

hello there first off let me tell you that any laptop with a intel hd 4000 graphics will play minecraft just fine now onto the important subject i have looked around and only have found one laptop in your price range that will run the elgato according to the specs you posted and it runs for about 420$ which is over your budget, now if you can save a little more money there are plenty of laptops around 500$ whereas you have very little choices in the 300$-400$ price range hope this helps good luck on your search

I honestly do not know what programs to use for editing. I've never even had a computer before. If Sony Vegas is the best or easiest I guess I'll go with that. And I guess I was planning on buying online, wherever it is cheapest, and thank you for replying.

hello there again i personally never heard of sony vegas i know there was something called windows movie maker which is free and there is something called pinnacle studio which is an easy to use video editing program i use adobe premiere pro but its a real advanced editing software not for novice users like you now as for a laptop some of those free to use video editing programs should work well with integrated graphics like intel hd 4000 but for best performance and reliability i would recommend a laptop with a dedicated graphics cards there are plenty of places to shop but i would recommend looking at http://www.newegg.com they have a little bit of everything hope this helps

Definitely go with Sony Vegas, you can buy the most basic version (which I believe is 80$ or something), but you can always get it from other sources... If you're really tight on a budget.

I'd recommend you to pick up a laptop with at least a decent Nvidia graphics card or the Intel HD 4600 or better, because there you can use this amazing feature called "Quick Sync" in Sony Vegas which will use the graphics processor and CPU at the same time and it will make rendering videos easier for you.

If you go with the Nvidia Graphics card, you can do that as well, I just can't tell you it would be as efficient in rendering as the Quick Sync feature, but you'd definitely get a boost in gaming with the Nvidia card since it's way better for gaming.

But if you're specifically looking for a rendering machine for simple videos and some montage clips of you and your friends gaming on a console, I'd go with the Intel HD solution.

A few laptops that gave me a spark on this pricepoint:

What about for more than just the simple average video edit??
I'm looking to buy a new computer. I have a macbook pro 2006 and its slow as shit, only reason i like it is for Screenflow for making my youtube videos. I talked to some guys at best buy and they told me for what i want to do, the hard drive and processor matter the most so I was thinking of getting a crucial mx200 250gb SSD for 100$ which seems awesome. I want a PC that I can run mac on without much tinkering because I'm not that advanced with computers. Is it possible to do that without being a pro? something that i can switch back and forth in and maybe use a windows based video editor PLUS screenflow when i so choose?? I also will be learning audio engineering and be purchasing a DAW (most likely Reaper) so i will be using the computer for video editing, DAW, google chrome, youtube, and evernote(for my documents and such) thats basically it. I've read things on this thing called hackintosh, not sure exactly what it is though. I want one that will not overheat fast(or at all) (and be quiet and cool) because my MBP overheats like a motherfucker and something that will run smooth even with lots of applications and tabs on google chrome open because I do keep a lot of tabs open lol thanks to everyone who can help id really appreciate it :) sorry to interupt this thread but I couldnt post a new thread. idk why.

you'd definitely get a boost in gaming with the Nvidia card since it's way better for gaming.
