Build Me a Gaming Laptop!!!

Hello everyone!

I'm new to the forums and would greatly appreciate some assistance in selecting a gaming laptop. I am currently a firefighter and need a portable PC to indulge in my "gaming habbits" as my current laptop is getting older and has proudly taken its fair share of abuse. I personally would rather have a desktop PC but working every other day for 24hrs its just not possible.

Budget:

$2000 - $3000

Use:

Gaming, more specifically I'm pretty pumped for SW:TOR so in preperation this laptop is being bought. I'm no idiot and I know with the advancment of technology I wont be able to play on "High" or "Ultra" setting of games that are released 2-3 years from now. I would like to have something that will last me 3 years and progress slowly from "Ultra" "High" "Medium" "Low" as the years go on, until I must upgrade again. I'm guessing on my budget I could get something that would reasonably play anything released in the next 2 or so years.

Brand Etc:

I currently own an Asus and could not be more proud of the abuse this machine has took the last 3 years, I've dropped it, spilled things on it, manually taken it apart and left random pieces out (lost a camera card in it somehow? don't ask because I don't know!!) and it still works like a charm. Don't get me wrong I dont purposely abuse computers but once I know its time to upgrade I may treat it a little worse than I should. I can gurantee my new computer will have a good home for atleast 2 years, until I become just a little complacent and probably spill things on it. So I would be happy to see a high end Asus pop up from you guys. Don't let that influence your decisions though, I want everyone's opinion on any brand, so any brand is completely and totally and option!

Asus makes great gaming machines as you already know. Alternatives you could consider if you wish are Sager, MSI and Alienware.

For your price range I'm guessing you want at least a 15" or probably a 17".

Latest Asus G74 should be a great choice.

Are you sure about that?
I know a full gaming tower is out of the question but you can still get a sweet gaming PC into a surprisingly small form factor. Not too much larger than a lunch box (okay, a BIG lunchbox). Something like the SILVERSTONE Sugo SG01 will handle a desktop Core i5-2500K CPU and desktop CFX/SLI video card setup.

You're budget is big enough for a 24" 1920x1080 gaming LCD at home and a 21.5" 1920x1080 LCD (with mouse and keyboard) at the station.

The GTX 460M is a high-end mobile card. It can play the majority of games on high at 1080p. I know this is WAY under your budget. But the extra $2000 will buy you an amazing desktop as well, some great SSDs, or a trip to Europe. Your call though.

What is the current computer you are gaming on? If you're using less than a Core 2 Quad and GTS 250, this would be a huge upgrade.
