I have used Lenovo ultrabook in the past and it was mostly for the tasks you have mentioned. You can check out the U series ultrabooks which will suit your purpose and should be within your budget. I have been a happy Lenovo user for 6 years. I had an accident with my U310 which broke the screen. I decided to buy Retina Macbook Pro late 2013 after that. You could also check out the older macs. Solid performance and high longevity. Hope this helps!
