Camtasia Studio 8.4 crashes every few minutes

It crashes multiple times per day, roughly every 5 minutes or so. I't becoming increasingly hard to get any work done. I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro.

It seems to happen most often when I'm zooming in and out of the timeline, I recorded a video screenshot of it happening here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2QTL61Pc2UVVDFmRFNJLXZaN1k/edit?usp=sharing

Anyone know what could be causing this (gpu, camtasia interacting with other software on my computer, etc)?

I have a custom built pc, everything is new on it except for the gpu, which I bought slightly used.

Thanks for the tip. I tried running it as an administrator without any other programs running, unfortunately it's still crashing just like it did before.

If I remember correctly, this has always happened on this particular computer (it's new, only a few months old). But camtasia works flawlessly on my laptop, so it points to a specific issue with the custom built pc.

I wish computers could diagnose themselves, it would make using them so much easier.

The 665MHz was probably just the amount of ram being used at the time the reading was taken, that's my 'somewhat' educated guess, although I'm not 100% sure on that.

My ram setup comprises of the following 4 sticks of ram:

Kingston HyperX Beast 16 GB Kit (2x8 GB) 2400MHz DDR3 PC3-19200 Non-ECC CL11 DIMM XMP Desktop Memory KHX24C11T3K2/16X (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A771ZJG/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

AND...

HyperX Beast 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) Desktop Memory Model KHX24C11T3K2/8X (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104373)

This is the motherboard I have: ASRock 990FX Extreme9 (http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/990FX%20Extreme9/?cat=Specifications)

It says it supports: DDR3 2450(OC)/2100(OC)/1600*/1333/1066 non-ECC, un-buffered memory

Looking at the specs, there shouldn't be a compatibility issue between my ram and motherboard, should there?

Just a quick update: I'm giving up on Camtasia Studio until this bug is fixed. Looks like a lot of other's are experiencing the same problem so I know it isn't an isolated incident (https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/camtasia_studio_8_keeps_crashing).

The funny thing is that camtasia works flawlessly on my laptop (no crashing whatsoever). The constant crashing only occurs on my desktop pc, it even does so with nothing imported to the library/timeline as can be seen in this screenshot video clip: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2QTL61Pc2UVVDFmRFNJLXZaN1k/edit?usp=sharing

I've just upgraded to the latest version of Camtastia 8.4.4 and as before it just crashes all the time.
I run Win 7 64bit ultimate on a very well spec'd machine that runs all other software with no trouble (GIS, CAD, PS etc etc)
As the Camtastia forums suggest the people at TechSmith are just not very good at coding with the software producing memory leaks which cause the crashes. In this day and age it is unacceptable that there is no 64 bit version.
My guess is that TechSmith simply don't have the knowledge to creat a 64 bit application.
I have put in a request to TechSmith that they rename Camtastia with the more appropriate Camcrashia.
This software is frankly junk and people should avoid it unless they are only doing the most rudimentary things on very small files.

Problem Solved. At least for, for now, anyways. Right click the short cut that launches Camtasia Studio, Click on Properties. Click on the compatibility tab. Check the "Run this program as an administrator". Also, check the box to "Run this program in compatibility mode for"... and choose Windows XP (Service Pack 3) from the list of options. Click Apply and Ok.
This has worked for me, and I hope for you too. Please post if this worked for you, lets share this 'fix'.
