Can i install an ssd on my laptop?

I need to install an ssd in my laptop (HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab269sa) i'd like to know if this is possible and what size it should be.

If you want to preserve your installed apps, buy a Samsung 850 evo(2.5" sata drive)
Use the Samsung ssd migration tool to copy the used part of your HDD to the ssd(use a usb to sata adapter cable(about $10)

Yes, you can install an SSD.
How large depends on your space needs and budget.

And I strongly recommend a clean install on this new SSD, rather than migrating from the old drive.
For 2 reasons:

1. The existing drive is already dying. You may be just migrating corrupt issues from old drive to new drive.

2. For any used PC, your first move should be a full wipe and reinstall of the OS. Everything, all partitions.

To be honest the HDD failing might have been my fault, i'm not sure. Should it be of no use for me in the future that SSD i will give to my mother or sister. Thanks for replies.

Not 'too small' physically, but too small for the amount of GB.
120GB will disappear faster than you might think.
