This is the one you just bought from ebay, with cracks?

How much do you want to invest in this already dropped and cracked laptop?

Yes, you can install an SSD.
How large depends on your space needs and budget.

And I strongly recommend a clean install on this new SSD, rather than migrating from the old drive.
For 2 reasons:

1. The existing drive is already dying. You may be just migrating corrupt issues from old drive to new drive.

2. For any used PC, your first move should be a full wipe and reinstall of the OS. Everything, all partitions.

I want to buy this, KINGSTON A400 120GB SA400S37/120G SATA 6Gb/s 2.5

To be honest the HDD failing might have been my fault, i'm not sure. Should it be of no use for me in the future that SSD i will give to my mother or sister. Thanks for replies.

If that is the only drive, 120GB is TooSmall.
