I just received my Yamaha RX-V483BL receiver as a replacement for my Bose unit as part of a home theater system. It's a lot "thicker" than the Bose unit, and it will not fit in the bottom of my cabinet sitting flat. I do have a side compartment that has enough room for it to sit up on its end. The receiver does not have DVD--just a receiver. Is it okay to install it up on its end? The user's manual only mentions not to use it upside down, as that would block all the cooling vents on top and cause it to overheat.

Solution
Cooling may be an issue. Most audio exquipment has a ventilated top to allow the heated air to rise naturally. Putting it on end will not allow that natural airflow to happen.

Solution
If you can leave some space for air to flow give it a try.
If the receiver overheats it will go into protection until it cools down. A small fan could be used to cool the receiver..
