Can I just connect my subwoofer to my music output and hear the music clearly?

I have a old system xtr 500 subwoofer & music board would that be ok just for basic music or do I need an amp too?

If you connect a subwoofer to a regular amp you will get some bass but it won't work nearly as well as if you connect it to a subwoofer amp.

The subwoofer has a 3 channel amp built in so you can connect it to a board and satellite speakers without another amp.
The amp for the sats is 85 watts rms but I couldn't find any information about the impedance of the satellites so you would want to know that to get compatible satellite speakers.
