can i upgrade to 12gb ram

I have sony vaio vpcsb36fg laptop 64-bit , 4gb ram ,i5 processer. can i add a additional 8gb of ram to make a total of 12gb

No you can't have total 12GB of RAM because you Sony Vaio laptop supports maximum 8GB RAM. So, just put one more 4GB stick on empty slot and you'll have total 8GB RAM.
