I am getting direcTV and have one hd tv and one regular tv. Can i use an hd receiver on the regular tv so that i can receive whole house dvr?

Yes, but why? You can get a non HD reciever for the Non HD TV and save the HD box fee. Be advised that the dvr comes with an extra monthly fee as well.
