is the the price difference betwen a laptop and desktop+monitor high ?

Totally subjective to the laptop. High-end gaming laptops do generally cost more than a good gaming desktop, but the price gap has narrowed a lot over the years.

Check out laptop resellers that can customize a laptop for you if you want something high-end for modern gaming. Clevo, MSI, Asus, and Gigabyte are brands worth considering that make very good gaming notebooks.

Expect to spend $1600ish to get a laptop to play the best graphics games at max settings nicely.

MOST i5's are dual core in laptops. So make sure you aren't getting one of those. Otherwise, that GPU will be nice in a laptop and will play the latest games smoothly. Just not at extreme Anti-Aliasing settings and anything over 1920x1200. But it will still perform strongly... IF that's not a dual core i5. If so, look into an i7, or make sure to get a quad core mobile i5.

I doubt you'll find something with an 880M in it for below $1,000, but the other specs are definitely within reason for that kind of price. You can pick something up with an i7 and a 950M or even, possibly, a 960M, for under $1,000, as well as with a bigger storage drive.

Sure, as long as the laptop's specs are up to par. Consoles are maybe a cheaper alternative.

desktops --- They r good performers and less money easily upgradable but have to sacrifice portability
