Hello im looking forward to buying a laptop for under 900 dollars. I will not be gaming with this laptop. I will usually be using this for schoolwork, watching movies, and surfing the web. i'd prefer if it would come with microsoft office installed. Thank you!

Solution
If you want something lighter than the ThinkPad L440, then consider the ThinkPad S431 Ultrabook which has a base price of $659.12. MS Office is a $139 option. This ultrabook weighs in at 3.92lbs which is significantly lighter than the L440. However, there are two caveats:

1. This has the prior generation Ivy Bridge Core i3 CPU. Assuming the same clockspeed, Haswell CPUs are 6% more powerful so it is a minor difference. The major difference is the integrated graphics core. The Intel HD 4600 in Haswell is roughly 33% more powerful than the Intel HD 4000 in Ivy Bridge. For every day use like watching videos there is no difference in performance. You will only notice a difference if you were to play games.

2. There is no Hard Drive...

I would suggest a 14" Laptop, with a core i-5 processor, 4GB RAM - here is one with office installed for less than $900:

http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Laptops/HP-ENVY/E1M98AV?HP-ENVY-TouchSmart-14t-k100-Ultrabook-ENERGY-STAR-

On sale for $749 and Office is $119 pre-installed.

Dell also has good laptop deals.

You can get the 14" Lenovo ThinkPad L440 which weighs 4.95lbs at a base price of $611.15. MS Office Student Edition is an additional $139 for a total of $750.15 before tax.

The base model comes with a Core i3-4000m and there are options to upgrade to a Core i5 or Core i7. The difference between Core i3 and Core i5 is Turbo Boost. Turbo Boost allows the Core i5 to overclock itself above the standard clockspeed if the CPU is stressed and if the CPU temps are not too high.

2. There is no Hard Drive option. It comes with a 128GB SSD and there is no option for a larger capacity SSD.

For an even less expensive laptop consider the 14" E431 series which starts at $527.12. Again, MS Office Student is a $139 option. It uses the prior generation Ivy Bridge Core i3 / i5 CPU and has a starting weight of 4.7lbs.
