can you hook-up a laptop and a desktop?

sorry if the question seems stupid but i am an ignoramus in computing..

i am in the process of building up a desktop and as i have accumulated 4 old laptops throughout the years i was wondering if it was possible to hook them up to a PC as if they were several displays/screens

another reason behind the question is that at home i always use my laptop on a board on my chest while i am lying down

yes yes i know i am super lazy, but i was wondering if i could rig something similar using a desktop linked to a laptop since i obviously can't balance a flat screen or a monitor on my chest

some laptops have vga ports, but usually these are old ones. I actually have a dell laptop that I have hooked up to my computer and done stuff on. Basically, what computer do you have?
