Can you hook up a smartphone to a hdmi and to the tv

I have a hdmi hooked up to my tv can i hook up a smartphone and watch movies

If your phone has a micro HDMI connection you can. HDMI to micro HDMI cable.
If your TV supports MHL then you can connect the phone with it's USB connection..
If you don't have either then you can get a Chromestick and do it without cables.
