Can you use a hdmi port for audio input?

Hello,I want to convert my old music tapes to digital. I have a headset outlet on the tape player and I have mic in/headset out and HDMI on my laptop. What is the best way to do this?

Thanks for the feedback. I have now tried that using Audacity but the sound quality was terrible. Spoke to HP techs about it and they said mic wasn't much use for line-in and wouldn't recommend it.

I have an older desktop with decent audio-video card so will try that. Any other ideas would be really welcome.
