Hello, after surfing Lenovo website for a while, I think I found two contenders.

Y40 at $699
http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/lenovo/y-series/y40/?sb=:000001C9:00011F88:

Y50 at $1099
http://shop.lenovo.com/ca/en/laptops/lenovo/y-series/y50/?sb=:000001CA:00005F59:#customize

Monitor size doesn't bother me all that much since I will be using a desktop monitor.

So main differences:

i7-4710HQ Processor vs i7-4510U Processor - Does quad core make that big of a difference?

AMD Radeon R9 M275 vs NVIDIA® GTX-860M - Some people say they are about equal, other say 860M blows M275 out of water.

1TB 5400 RPM vs Hybrid 1TB 5400 RPM+8GB SSHD - Not too sure if the 8GB SSHD really matters.

8Gb ram vs 16 Gb ram. - Well, 16 GB is obviously better.

back lit keyboard vs none back lit. - Back lit ones obviously are fancier. Never really used laptop before, so not sure how gimmicky it is.

Obviously the Y50 is superior, but is it 400 dollars superior? With the 400 dollars I can purchase a 40 inch + tv or two monitors.

I guess another angle is, the said Y40 may become obsolete 2 or 3 years earlier than the Y50.

Also, are those prices a good deal? I don't have much experience with laptops. Are those the best saving I will realistically get? or would there be better deals during boxing day (not necessarily for Lenovo, but other brands as well).

Any recommendation is appreciated. Thanks.

Quick advice, if you want to game a lot and use mods, get the y50. I will reply with more details a bit later. The y50 will "future-proof" you a lot longer than the y40. The 860m is better than the m275 for sure. 16 gb ram is overkill right now to game, but in 1-2 years when the game will require at least 8gb you will be safe + for right now you have room to use mods. The 8 gb ssd isnt really relevant. And from my experience i like a...

Hello. I do game.

Mostly things like Eldar Scroll, Blizzard games. Not too big into FPS. I guess my biggest concern is whether or not y40 will not efficiently run the next Elder Scroll or Fallout title, Or if either of those desktops will support custom graphic enhencement mods like ENB.

Thanks.

Thanks, lasting longer is definintly worth it. Another question though, price wise, how good is this deal? I have heard that a lot of sellers would raise the base price to make a saving seems like larger than it actually is.

Well, i would say the y50 cause you wont want to have to buy another laptop in a year or two to play the latest elder scrolls or fallout at max settings, that is if you want to run it at max settings.
