cant access anything on lap top

hi my hp lap top battery was removed while it was on and running when i replaced it my lap top turns on but it won't let me access anything at all its on the home screen but looks like theres no files plz help me

At what stage of the booting are you?
What are your 'Specifications'; OS,...
I would recommend using a Live CD/USB (preferable)or a 'Startup Repair disc' to retrieve the files as backup before troubleshooting proceeds if you can use basic peripherals.
(HARDER TO ACCOMPLISH) Pressing F8 (depends on your PC type) >>Launch Startup Repair> and when you get to a stage where you can access the HDD directory, copy to an external device. E.g install a driver; 'system repair image' option, etc.
