Solved! Cant show Laptop screen on external monitor

Hi,
EDIT.....OK PROBLEM SOLVED.....just plugged and unplugged the HDMI cable repeatedly, then switched the laptop off then back on, and monitor now working....END OF EDIT

I just connected a Dell monitor to my laptop with a HDMI cable. The laptop must have detected it, because the Dell monitor shows up in the device manager when i plug in the HDMI cable to the laptop.
However, i cannot get the laptop to display to the external monitor.
I selected HDMI1 on the monitor but to no avail.
Do you know how to do this?

The monitor does work as it displays an error message saying no signal detected.

My laptop is Huawei Matebook D and its windows 11 home

The external monitor is DELL SE2417HG

I googled and went to download a driver but the Dell website seemed to be telling me that there were no drivers for this monitor, at least not for windows 11. I downloaded the driver it recomended, and installed it, but the monitor still doesnt work.

I used to use this monitor some five years ago with my old laptop, and its been in storeage ever since then.


Do you know what i can do?
