I'm buying a new graphics card for my sister's old AGP system.

If I can unlock the X800GTO, then it would be the better choice.
If I can't unlock it, then the 7600 GS/GT would be the better choice.

So, I've been looking at unlocking guides, but I'm not sure what the success rate is here.

Thanks!

Hi track im asuming you know all about the benefits of the 7600gs/gt as far as shadder 3 etc goes so to answer your question, i used to own a x800xl card and i spent about a month looking in to the different 800s and can tell you that the gto is the card of choice amoungst those that wanted to overclock/unlock/flash etc.
Its been a while and i will check but im pretty sure they can be unlocked up to a 850xt.

Just checked and they came with a couple of different cores R430 and R480 they will both unlock although its not garanteed like it was on the gto2s that they made for pcie. the R480 will unlock to a higher level than the R430.

I had a gto for agp and it did unlock , but could not use it that way there were green lines everywhere. So just stuck to oc that with a simple resistor mod could go crazy.
I also still have my sapphire gto2 that is a monster oc'er and runs fine unlocked.
I would not chance it unless you get a real good price for the x800 go with the 7600gs.

Thank you, mactronix and Icbluscrn!
I can get the X800GTO for 25$ cheaper than the 7600 GS.
And since the X800GTO is better than the 7600 GS at stock, and I'm not going to be buying a high-end cooler which would let me benefit from the 90nm 7600 GS core, Ithink I'll go with the X800GTO.
I also heard that the PCIe version has a higher chance to unlock, but here for hoping!
