Usually there is an Input button that is pressed. Channels 3 and 4 is REALLLLLY old. To receive a specific answer you need to offer specific model numbers.

Modern TV don't use channel, use the INPUT or VIDEO button on your remote.

Your TV may have a remote with very few buttons that depends on the on screen display to chose the input that you connected the DVD. Check the owners manual or just scroll around the home screen of the TV to find the inputs. If the DVD player is turned on you may even see the DVD output itself inside the button you need to scroll to and select enter or OK.
