Solved! Charging problem with Asus X540SA

Hi, I have a X540SA which hasn't been used for a while. Now when I switch it on I can run it on AC, but battery reads "0% not charging". So I did a hard reset and the light indicates that it is charging - for a few seconds, then it stops. But now it reads "0% charging". However it doesn't charge, and as soon as I remove the power cable the power immediately switches off. Any ideas please? Thank you.

Try a new battery.
