Everyone I know uses vanilla SMS (or they use iMessages and don't know the difference). Until a messenger arrives that's cross-platform and can handle SMS when necessary in a graceful way, I don't know anyone that's interested in switching. I certainly don't know anyone who wants to use as many platforms as Mr. Casey does.
