Sorry that this concerns a Chromebox and not a laptop but I can't find a section on Chromeboxes. If someone wants to move this question to a more approriate section that would be OK.
So I looked on Google to see if anyone is having this same problem and found this forum people asking the same question but in regards to laptops and projectors.
My wife get's me an HP Chromebox about a year ago. Only to discover it uses an HDMI port for the monitor. Of course all of my monitors either have a VGA or DVI port. So I goto Best Buy and of course they have no adapters. I ALWAYS come out of Best Buy or Office Depot empty handed when I am looking for something.
So I get on Ebay and find one from this seller:
https/www.ebay.com/itm/USB-3-0-2-0-to-VGA-Video-Graphic-Card-Cable-Adapter-External-Display-for-Win-7-8/291185868669?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
It works.
So I get my parents a Chromebox made by ASUS the other day and order an adapter while I'm at it. This one:
https/www.ebay.com/itm/1080P-6FT-HDMI-Gold-Male-To-VGA-Male-15-Pin-Video-Adapter-Cable-High-Resolution/122596786468?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
Well it doesn't work. So I grab the one from my HP Chromebox and it works on my parents Chromebox. I take the newer cable and hook it to mine. Nothing. I contact the seller but keep getting the run around so I'm about to leave some negative feedback that the cable doesn't work.
So I ordered another one with one of those boxes between both connectors. This one:
https/www.ebay.com/itm/TV-Box-HDMI-1080P-to-VGA-w-Audio-HD-Video-Cable-Converter-Adapter-for-Projector/191975667774?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
I'm assuming the "black box" is what converts the signal from digital to analog?
It won't work on my HP Chromebox either!
So I looked back in my purchase history for the seller where I got the first adapter from. It hasn't arrived but I'm hoping as they say 3rd time is the charm. This particular adapter had "Insigna" stamped on it.
If the third cable refuses to work then I get I have no other option that to buy a new monitor with an HDMI port.
I have not checked to see if the second cable will work on my parent's computer.
Any of you guys have this same problem? Does this sound like a hardware issue or junk adapters?
