Backstory: i have an SSD on my laptop that i use for OS and programs only, and a 500 gb external hardrive for my documents, videos, etc. due to the high failure rate for external Hard drives, would it be smart to back up my external to a cloud just in case? and if so whats the best cloud program for the money?

Just get more HDD for redundancy.

Unless you have really fast internet (1Gbps actually speed), cloud backup is painfully slow.

Not to mention depending on the amount of data you need backed up, cloud storage can become kind of expensive. You could save the monthly cost of saving 500GB of data in the cloud and build yourself a small low powered home server. =) Fixes the external drive issues, adds hard drives, and adds server fun.
