but what about all those people who bought properties on the moon?

the company would be trespassing on their land...

i can hear some old fogie saying "Damm robot...get off my lawn!!"

I remember seeing a spot in Star Trek where you could see the Luna colony from Earth. It was very cool. Better to see a lake and some green than the Microsoft Windows logo...

Can someone designate the moon as an international park to prevent the logo stuff?

This doesn't sound logical at all.

1. With the size of the images, they would need too many robots to be able to change the image that is displayed quickly.

2. If they are able to create an image, why can't they change it? You wouldn't be tattooing your initials on the moon "forever". Only until they change the image.

3. Do they really think they can make an image that is readable here on earth? There is only so much detail you can put into a black and white image that is 238,855 miles away. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_distance_from_Earth_to_the_moon

There are way to many things that make this idea ridiculous.

They need to get their heads out of the clouds and come back to earth.

Nooooo! Do not let companies junk up space with a bunch of ads and spam. Which later will mean courts, frivilous lawsuits, and EVEN worse lawyers. Earth isn't enough huh? Now we got those who want to junk up the moon and space in general. I sure don't want to look up at the night sky and see big glowing Viagra or tampon advert.

[citation][nom]dingumf[/nom]I wouldn't want ads on the moon but if I had a trillion dollars, I'd carve my loved ones name on the moon.[/citation]

With a giant "laser"

Please let there be some international law that prevents this from happening. How full of yourself are you if you think you have the right to control what over 6 billion people are going to have to see?

I wouldn't mind a laser light advert system projected from Earth but deforming the actual surface?!

This sounds like a money sink for whoever came up with the idea. The "invest in this and it will happen!" kind of thing. Except the guy running it is spending/pocketing all the current investments to get more people to invest. Wish I had thought of it first...

I wouldn't worry about this so much. I can't imagine many people jumping at the idea, and the amount of protesters would be huge.

Isn't the moon considered international territory? See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outer_Space_Treaty
The government would have to approve this first. Of course, nobody has the means to enforce the law once someone manages to land a robot there. . .
First mad scientist to land bots and build an aerial defense network gets the right carve a message to the world. See also: "It's mine now, bitches!!!"
