Compaq Laptop Help

I have a broken Compaq Presario CQ61 Laptop and I am going to buy a 2.5 inch SATA to USB 2.0 cable to connect to the hard drive which I am going to remove from the laptop, should I buy a 15 or 22 pin one.

Not sure about your question per se.

Pull the drive from the broken Compaq laptop and look at the drive's connection(s). And any other specs listed on the drive.

That way you can be certain about the needed connection cable.

SATA drives should only have one type of connection, they are even the same between laptop and desktop drives.

What you may be looking at is the caddy the laptop may have to hold the drive, at times they have a different connection to the motherboard.

Just get a normal SATA to USB cable. I suggest a USB 3 enclosure, the added copy speed is nice if you have a system with USB 3 to use it with.
