Connect old receiver

I have 4 speakers installed in living room ceiling and an old receiver with no HDMI cable. How do I connect everything? In laymen’s terms please!

Suggest that you also include a simple diagram or sketch showing all speakers and devices plus the available audio connections/ports on each of them.

There may be some "devil in the details".

The speakers connect to the A/B "R and L" terminals.

There is no HDMI interface with this receiver.

Is there something that is HDMI that you want to connect to it?

So you want to play the sound from your TV through the receiver to the speakers.

It's called an HDMI audio extractor.

You go from your TV to this with HDMI and then you go from this to your receiver with RCA.

I have everything hooked up, but only hear static coming through the speakers. Any suggestions?
