I used a backup utility named FonePaw which works in Windows and can run a backup of the phone's contents to the PC it's installed on. It worked for me and later I restored the backup to a different phone and the only thing I lost was the Calendar.

I hope your USB Debugging setting has been enabled or you're in trouble. Has it connected in the past?
