Question Connected a ground to my monitor and my laptop won't turn on

I have a small speaker system which had a lot of noise so I thought I would connect a ground wire from my speaker to my monitor to fix the noise. but when I connected the cable I suddenly heard a loud noise through my speaker and my laptop turned off and won't turn on again. any suggestions?

LoL thankfully I didn't, I went to a shop yesterday and they said i fried the power control and it was a 30$ fix and a couple of hours. but I also have seem to fried my audio card and also windows got corrupted with the sudden power off. All in all it could've been much worse.
