Connecting JBL BT speakers. One with Connect+ and the other with reg Connect

I am looking to connect my JBL Flip 4 to the JBL Charge 3 the Flip has Connect+ and the Charge 3 has reg Connect. Can I get around this somehow?

You aren't trying to connect one speaker to the other.
You are trying to connect both of them to the same source. Since they don't both have Connect+ you would need a bluetooth transmitter that can pair with two speakers. Or get another JBL with Connect+.

JBL released the new JBL Connect App Update. Download it and connect it to your Charge 3. Then you can do a software update of the Charge 3. It supports Connect+ now. But you have to know that if you do that you won‘t be able to connect the Charge 3 to a speaker with a regular Connect function

I updated both of my JBL 3 to the new firmware which supports Connect+. However since then the JBL Connect App has problems to connect to the boxes and control them (e.g. one cannot change the box's name or from party mode to stereo mode any longer). My phone runs Android 5.1. Ist this a known problem?
