Connecting my Pioneer TV to my MacBook Pro with an HDMI

I have a Pioneer PRO-505PU Display along with a PRO-R05U receiver and I am simply trying to connect my Macbook Pro to the TV via hdmi. I have an hdmi in input 1 of the receiver but have had no luck with the TV getting any signal from the computer. Today, I bought a universal remote because some sources on the internet recommended I do so to manually program the input with my computer, but our universal remote (which does specify that it connects to pioneer tvs) does not seem to connect to ours.
Can you help me out with this?

Your display is 1280 x 768 resolution and your Macbook Pro display is higher so it won't show on the Pioneer.
Set the Pioneer as a second or extended display and set that to 1280 x 720.
