A TV is really just an output device for me, may as well be a large monitor, doesn't need network or speakers or multiple inputs
...
I have an AV amp and all my stuff goes into that and it all gets piped out through the HDMI and the surround speakers, I can flick the input to the HTPC and watch DVDs, Blurays, streamed or downloaded TV, movies or music via XBMC, as well as photos, Facebook, play some internet games, play some real games, hell even post on Tom's forums like right now, all with a wireless mini-keyboard with a trackball built in or the all-in-one remote, hell if I get REALLY bored I can flick the input to cable TV and watch that too
...
The only thing I need from my next TV is more resolution, colour gamut, smaller bezel because unless you can integrate Windows and XBMC into an actual TV I really don't need a "smart" TV

This article seems to imply that Facebook and Twitter usage is a measure for the success of the Smart TV platform. I think if these researchers would had tried writing a significant portion of their findings using the Smart TV platform, particularly their remote control, then they would had figured out why Facebook and Twitter usage is low in favor of video services, game consoles, and traditional TV programming.

[citation][nom]back_by_demand[/nom]Cool story broSo, large Amish community down there?[/citation]

i have a 75mbit line
if anyone streams wirelessly, the internet takes out a razer and slits its wrist, forcing me to restart the router and modem...

i have no idea why it does this, wired i can go and stream 6 youtube at 1080p before bandwidth is even becomes an issue, but so help you god if you stream 1 thing at 480p wirelessly.

My "Smart TV" is pretty dumb and the apps are almost unusable. Netflix, the only app I use, is difficult to navigate and slow to find things. A lot of the time I have to find things on my computer on netflix and then go to the tv to watch them. The web browser is useless. Now if they threw in an I7 processor with a decent OS say perhaps windows things would probably be different.

Yep, smart TV sets are not smart (and fast) enough...
They are so unuseable, so slow, so hard to navigate... Maybe ac versions and 14nm multicore prosessors will remedy this...

is it really hard to understand this?? People don't want their whole family reading what they are gossiping on Facebook or twitter...

Put an I7 in it and windows and it will use it besides my Xbox not hard to figure out. Just wait till CES 2013 Asus is coming out with a TV and I would bet that it has a nice P.O.C. and nividia tegra4. Now that's a flat panel I would buy
