i need a budget laptop which can handle corel 5 and photoshop well. i have two options core i3 1st gen or dual core 2nd gen.
core i3 is 10% costlier.

Hello piush008;

They both will handle Photoshop and Corel5.
But you did not provide enough details to know which is the better option or if that 10% extra for the 'i3' is worth it.

example of a "dual core 2nd gen" Celeron Processor B810 1.6Ghz or Pentium B940 2.0Gghz
vs 1st Gen Core i3-380M 2.53Ghz.

Is the Dual Core a Pentium Txxx? If it is go with the i3. The extra 10% you pay you will see in improvement from the cpu. The 1st gen i3's and such performed 10% better over the core 2 cpu's. I own a pentium dual core @2.2GHz laptop from ASUS that works extremely well! You can't hear the cpu cooler in my laptop even if its maxed out. Asus does an amazing job at cooling in their laptops. Just though I would share that little tidbit.

me too confused in buying......dual core 2nd g or core i3 1st g.......is ny worth buying core i3 1st g or m simply wasting money? plz help me out asap

Generally speaking a 2nd gen Core i3 CPU is on average 10% - 12% more powerful than a 1st gen Core i3 CPU based on various benchmarks; that's assuming both CPUs have the same clockspeed. Therefore, the 10% higher price is justified by the benchmarks.

Additionally, the 2nd gen Core i3 has better integrated graphics (Intel HD 3000) which is actually decently capable of playing games which are that very demanding like Mass Effect 3. That is if you plan on playing games...
