Hello,

The screen of my HP CQ60 laptop suddenly went blank while I was working on it.

I opened the laptop and cleaned the fan which has a bit of dust in it.
Started the laptop and the screen was ok.

But the problem reappeared after a few days.
The screen went blank while I was working.

Also sometimes the screen does work when I start the laptop.
But most of the times it is blank.

When the screen is blank connecting the VGA output to television also does not work.
Used the Fn + F4 key to switch the screen but no luck.

I have read lot on the forums but none of the solutions have helped.

Tried to disconnect the battery and hold the power button for more than 60 seconds.

Also interchanged the RAM.

My basic issue is that why does the screen works some times.
If it was a cable loose then the VGA output to television should have worked.

Is this a bad motherboard?
Why is works sometimes?

Regards,

Navin

Hello NavinTom

Can you please confirm if you are able to see the vendor's logo when you power on your laptop?

If the vendor's logo is visible, there might be some issue with the display settings or the power plan options could be misconfigured. In this case, you can try resetting the currently active power plan back to default, or can pick a different power plan altogether.

My reply on this thread would guide you through the process of resetting the currently active power plan to default.

Feel free to revert if more information/assistance is needed. Good Luck!!

Hello again NavinTom

Did you try hard resetting the laptop?

You can do so by taking the battery out, unplugging it from the power supply, and then pressing and holding the power button for around 30-60 seconds. After this, put the battery back in the laptop, and try turning the laptop on.

If the issue persists, try turning the laptop on with battery taken out and only with the charger plugged in.

You can also try this:

> Turn the laptop off.

> Open the back cover of the laptop.

> Take out its CMOS battery. (A CMOS battery looks something like the battery used in the wrist watches but is bigger in size.)

> Leave the laptop alone for 15-20 minutes in the powered off state.

> Put the CMOS battery back in its place.

> Turn the laptop on.

If even this doesn't work, try replacing the CMOS battery. (It is cheap and can be found at any computer accessories shop.)

Let me know which solution worked for you. Good Luck!!

I did try the hard reset a few times but no luck.

Also disconnected teh CMOS batterry, left it for 30 minutes, but nothing on screen after i start the laptop.

How do i know if the CMOS battery is dead.
Won't the screen still show something if the CMOS battery is bad?

Right now my laptop screen does not show anything at all. Even from the start.
Only sometimes it shows everything & boots into windows.

Hello again NavinTom

Most of the times the issue of such type is resolved with either resetting the CMOS, replacing the CMOS battery or hard resetting the laptop. If none of these worked for you, I would suggest you to get it diagnosed at your nearest authorized service center.

Good Luck!! :)
