DDOS attacks for about 6 months now

I've been ddosed for about 6 months now and it's started to get worse. I've tried using a VPN but they still DDOS me. (I don't know much about ddosing, can they still ddos me if I use a VPN after the attack?)
Also, my router claims to have "DOS protection" (Netgear DGND3700v2) but it doesn't seem to be very good...
Is there any way I can prevent ddos attacks?

It's so bad now, it's taking around a minute to load pages.

Call up your ISP, and get them to change your external IP address.
